Waka Waka

From the Blog, "Mi Blog Es Tu Blog" (Go see it it's awesome!)

"If you are remotely familiar with Univision and it’s exclusive Spanish-language rights to the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa, I’m certain you have heard the now ubiquitous Waka-Waka, a melody everybody wants us to believe was written from scratch by the super famous 33-year old Colombian singer Shakira.

Well… years before the hip-queen even reached puberty, the Waka-Waka was already a sensation, first performed live on Latin American television by the wonderful Las Chicas del Can, under the original title of Waka-Waka: El Negro no puede, freely translated by myself as: Waka-Waka The Black Guy Can’t Get it Up. "

Shakira was one of my favorite singers as a toddler. Her old songs in spanish are incredible. I love her, but, lately her new songs have been disapointing me. Especially this incident. I'm not sure if she claimed that Waka Waka (which by the way means, "go for it" as in encouragement) was her own song, or she admitted if it was a cover. But either way, people think that it's Shakira's, and i just want people to know. My friends groan when i bring it up. They're ignorent, i pity them. One of them even said"Copying isn't bad." I felt like getting out of that room already. Sure, their singer can copy a song but if we steal an idea for a school project from them, then they say it's unfair. Copying, i think, is just not being cool. The genius, who comes up with something original, uses their brain and creative skills to come up with it. While, the copy-cat steals it making no effort to cme up with something on their own. They don't have the skills, or creativity.
Shakira does though.... she just got greedy for the money.
